Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between Grade 2 and Grade 3 anchor chain?
Grade 3 chain is made from higher-strength steel than Grade 2, so for the same diameter it has a higher proof and breaking load. The required grade and diameter come from the vessel's equipment number and class rules.
How long is one shot of anchor chain?
A standard shot is 27.5 metres (15 fathoms). Shots are joined with Kenter shackles; the anchor end and inboard end use end shackles, swivels and enlarged links.
Which class certificate do you supply?
The certificate is issued by the class society you specify, for example DNV, ABS, LR, BV or CCS, after the surveyor witnesses the tests at the approved works. Please give the vessel's class when you request a quote.
Do you supply anchors with the chain?
Yes. High holding power and Hall anchors from type-approved manufacturers can be quoted with the chain.
